Dry Skin
If your skin feels dry, rough or tight towards the edges of your face, with no oily spots, and only fine pores, you most likely have a dry skin type.
What are the causes of dry skin ?
Like all skin types, dry skin is genetic and produces less sebum or natural oils. The "tight" feeling in your skin is mainly due to a lack of water in your skin.
The dry skin can be sensitive to many factors. Redness, inflammation and irritation can appear when triggered. Here are the causes:
- Insufficient hydration of the skin
- Skin aging
- External factors: ultraviolet rays (UV), dry wind, cold, dry heat, temperature variations, excessively abrasive toiletries and hygiene products, detergents, contact with chemical substances, some fabrics...
- Nutritional deficiency: essential fatty acids, vitamins, zinc, magnesium, proteins, etc.
- Medical treatments: drugs against cholesterol, retinoids, PUVA therapy, chemotherapy
- Diseases: infection, psoriasis, eczema, hypothyroidism, anorexia and / or bulimia, renal failure, diabetes, cancer.
What should be your routine?
As we age, dry skin’s collagen and hyaluronic acid diminish which are crucial naturally-occurring substances that keep skin soft and supple.
